My personal Precision Bass

This is my personal precision bass that I use for just about everything. The body was made and finished for me by Rosser Guitars in the USA (you can order directly from Rosser on eBay).

The neck is a generic Chinese-made factory special that I picked up as a placeholder last year. It has some of the thickest and gloopiest finish I’d ever seen, a brutally bad Fender logo on the headstock, and a very poorly installed truss rod. I scraped and sanded the logo and back of the neck and got it straight with a bit of force and a lot of luck. It’s the quality of part and kind of workmanship I would never dream of passing on to a paying client, but since it’s just for me it’s fine. Despite the multitudinous faults, it was a great match for the body and it feels comfortable.

The pickup is a 10% overwound Lindy Fralin precision bass pickup. I feel strongly that a cream cover is almost always the way to go with a P bass.

All of the hardware is from Gotoh’s excellent Relic series.

I typically prefer Elixir brand round wound strings or Thomastik-Infeld flats on my basses, but I am currently auditioning a set of Labella Olinto Signature Series flat wound strings (0.047 through 0.107). The 0.107 low E is absolutely massive but doesn’t overpower the lighter ones. If you like the feel of the Labella Low Tension flats and want a little more clarity or a little less low end boom, you might like these strings.
